Coronavirus and its Prevention

Today on Weekly Articles, we’ll talk about what Coronavirus is and how we can take simple but crucial preventive measures to avoid catching it.



What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a type of virus that has many different kinds, and some cause disease. A newly identified type of Coronavirus has caused a recent outbreak of respiratory illness called Covid-19. Hence Covid-19 is a disease caused by coronavirus. 

Symptoms of Covid-19


Most common symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, tiredness and dry cough as endorsed by World Health Organization. The incubation period of Covid-19 is five to six days on average but it may extend up to fourteen days from catching corona virus till revelation of Covid-19 symptoms.

How Can We Prevent Coronavirus?

As they say, “Prevention is better than Cure”, here are some basic preventive measures to avoid catching Coronavirus:-
  • Wash your hands frequently. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based cleasning agent.
  • Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue. In case you don't have a tissue handy, cover your mouth with your bent elbow.

  

  • Remember that wearing a face mask is not a certain preventive measure. World Health Organization also advises to wear mask only if you have symptoms of Covid-19 or if you're attending a patient of Covid-19.
  • Stay at home if you feel unwell and go outside only if unavoidable or for seeking medical care.
  • If you have a fever, a cough, and difficulty breathing, report to medical center immediately.
  • In addition of above mentioned tips, please also follow the directions of your local health authority.
